Majestic Oaks Annual Budget
Every year, the Majestic Oaks board of directors generates a
detailed budget for the upcoming year. This is an
intensive exercise that balances the need to keep costs (and
dues) low, and to ensure we have the funds to operate.
This exercise starts with looking at the previous years
expenses and adjusting for inflation. They also factor in
known expenses. Once the Majestic Oaks board of directors
have this baseline, the real fun begins. They examine and
explore all categories of expenses. They also look for
ways to cut costs without sacrificing the services our
neighborhood needs. In the end, the board has a working
document that forms the basis for our financial
decisions.
The Majestic Oaks board of directors want
to keep dues low-remember, they pay them too! At the
same time, the board has obligations that need to be met,
and services to provide. And unlike most
organizations, they do not have the ability to borrow
funds to finance operations or expenses. When our
wallet is empty...
What can I do?
That being said, this is an area primed for abuse. Get
involved, ask questions, and keep honest people honest! Did an
budget category triple this year? Ask why! Do you suspect a
board member of using their position for personal gain? Ask for
legitimate justification.
